How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Turin: the items that make the price

Why two identical bathrooms can cost twice as much: systems, tiles, sanitaryware, shower or bath, timing. No random figures, just what matters.

It is the most searched question on Google and the hardest to answer with a number. A 5 m² bathroom can cost twice as much as another 5 m² one. Instead of throwing out a figure, we explain what it depends on: so you can read any quote, not only ours.

The items of a serious quote

  1. Demolition and disposal: removal of tiles, sanitaryware, screed; landfill transport is paid by weight.
  2. Plumbing: new supply and drain pipes. If you move the WC or the shower, drain gradients change and the cost rises.
  3. Electrics: lighting points, sockets, an electric towel radiator if any, ventilation if the bathroom has no window.
  4. Screed and waterproofing: the membrane under the shower and on the floor is the item nobody sees and that prevents leaks into the flat below.
  5. Wall and floor tiles: here the range is huge, from standard porcelain to large formats and designer tiles; full-height tiling costs more than tiling to 1.20 m.
  6. Sanitaryware and taps: wall-hung or floor-standing, concealed cistern, branded or entry-level taps.
  7. Shower or bath: flush floor tray with a linear drain, made-to-measure glass enclosure, or a bathtub; the flush-floor shower is the item that makes the biggest difference.
  8. Finishes: false ceiling with spotlights, anti-mould paint, door, vanity unit and mirror.

What pushes the price up

  • Moving the WC and the drains.
  • Large formats, mosaics, tiles laid diagonally or in herringbone.
  • A flush-floor shower on a ground floor or with a thin screed.
  • A windowless bathroom: extraction is needed, ideally with a timer.
  • Changing your mind once work has started.

What does not push the price up (and is worth it)

  • Concealed cistern: costs a little more and the bathroom looks bigger.
  • Thermostatic mixer in the shower.
  • Sockets next to the mirror, where they are really needed.
  • Breathable anti-mould paint.

How long it takes

A complete bathroom generally needs two to three weeks of actual work, because screed, waterproofing and adhesive have drying times that cannot be shortened. If it is the only bathroom in the home, we organise it so that WC and a temporary shower stay usable as much as possible.
